Advancing State Policies to Cultivate High-Quality School Leaders

This webinar is now on-demand! Watch the whole event here.

All state ESSA plans were due September 18, and many will take advantage of expanded funding opportunities in ESSA’s Title I and Title II, Part A to make broad, sustained investments in cultivating high-quality school leaders. Others can still evolve and refine school leadership policies throughout ESSA implementation. State boards of education can lead these efforts by using all three of their powers—policymaking, questioning, and convening—for collective voice.

Join NASBE on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, from 3:00 to 4:00 (EDT) for a webinar that explores key questions state boards of education and other policymakers should ask when considering school leadership policies. Panelists, including Beverly Hutton, deputy executive director of the National Association of Secondary School Principals; Illinois State Board of Education Member Lula Ford, who is also a former principal and school administrator; and Byron Ernest, a current member of the Indiana State Board of Education and former principal, will discuss three important aspects of school leadership policies: standards, workforce diversity, and school improvement. NASBE Director of Teaching, Leading, and Learning Don Long will moderate the discussion.
