A Board-to-Board Conversation on School Safety: Lessons Learned and What’s Next

State boards of education across the nation are engaging in deep conversations about providing a safe and healthy learning environment for all students. NASBE will host a member-only webinar on school safety on April 20, 2018, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm (EDT). As we all work to find a way forward after the events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Broward County, Florida, please join us to hear from your peers about challenges boards are facing and lessons learned.

Unlike typical NASBE webinars, where board members use the chat function to ask questions and share comments, this webinar will encourage board members to discuss emerging school safety issues and brainstorm potential solutions. We hope you will join the conversation and share information with your peers in other states.

April 20 marks the anniversary of the Columbine massacre, an indelible memory for Colorado and all board members. To begin our conversation on school safety, Colorado State Board Member Jane Goff will provide insights from her experience following the Columbine event.

Massachusetts Student Board Member Hannah Trimarchi will also share her perspective as a student leader who cares deeply about this issue and discuss how the Massachusetts board drew insights from school districts and law enforcement at their recent meeting.

NASBE President and CEO Kristen Amundson will guide the conversation.

This webinar is now available on-demand! Contact Michael Spaeth for access information.
