There is no profession with a greater impact on our collective future than teaching. It is at once a creative pursuit and an awesome responsibility. The relationship between teacher and student can be deep and profound. A teacher’s pride is in lives touched, nurtured, changed, and loved, as celebrated in films like Mr. Holland’s Opus, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, and Freedom Writers. Few of us nonteachers can claim such a legacy.

We all have teachers to thank for who we have become, so we owe it to them to respect their professionalism, commitment, intentions, and service. We should all commit ourselves to celebrating and honoring them.
