This Policy Update outlines the importance of aligning principal preparation programs with the high expectations set for our school leaders and the policy levers that may help facilitate this integration. State boards can routinely review the quality of preparation programs. They can collaborate with institutions of higher education on setting rigorous admission standards for principal programs, while ensuring the curriculum meets the state’s leadership standards.
