Reviewing State ESSA Plans: Inside Board Decisions

While 12 states and the District of Columbia have submitted their ESSA accountability plans to the U.S. Department of Education, the majority of states are waiting until September to submit theirs. But first, many state boards of education will be weighing in on their state’s plan.

Join us on May 9 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm (EDT), for a NASBE webinar to gain insight into how two state boards—in Illinois and D.C.—made decisions to approve their ESSA plans for April submission. NASBE President and CEO Kristen Amundson will review key questions state board members should ask as plans come before them and highlight trends in the plans submitted thus far. She will also talk with board members and other officials from Illinois and D.C. about their review process and how they got to “yes.”

This webinar will feature:

Kristen Amundson, NASBE president and CEO
Lula Ford, Illinois State Board of Education
Jack Jacobson, Vice President of the D.C. State Board of Education
James Meeks, Chairman of the Illinois State Board of Education
Tony Smith, Illinois State Superintendent of Education
Karen Williams, President of the D.C. State Board of Education

This webinar is now on-demand! Watch the full event here.
