NASBE’s Nutrition and Physical Activity work provides research-based capacity-building assistance and information to education leaders to help schools establish, maintain, and evaluate healthy school nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention environments and collaborate with parents, community, and public health partners on increasing healthy eating and physical activity at school.

NASBE’s Center for Safe and Healthy Schools believes in building partnerships between state boards of education and other stakeholders to create new or improved policies and programs. Through this work, we hope to create healthy school environments and high quality physical and nutrition education in the nation’s schools, resulting in healthier student behaviors that will last a lifetime.

Our work in healthy eating and childhood obesity is supported by a cooperative agreement with the CDC DASH, as well as by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its Leadership for Healthy Communities national program.
