NASBE provides capacity-building assistance and information to education leaders to help them establish, maintain, and evaluate healthy school nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention environments. We build partnerships between state boards of education and other stakeholders to create new or improved policies and programs. We collaborate with community and public health partners to increase healthy eating and physical activity at school

Our current work in nutrition is supported by a cooperative agreement with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s School Health Branch.  We have previously also received funding from CDC DASH, as well as the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation through its Leadership for Healthy Communities national program. This funding has enabled NASBE to provide small project grants, technical assistance, education, and information to support state boards of education, state education agencies, state health departments, and other policy leaders in numerous states in developing and implementing policies to improve school strategies for healthy eating, physical activity, food marketing, and health education.
