Arlington, VA — A statement by Jim Kohlmoos on the start of his career as Executive Director of the National Association of State Boards of Education:

“I am excited about stepping into my new role as NASBE’s Executive Director, and grateful to my predecessor, Brenda Welburn, for the legacy of excellence she left behind. From that foundation we start a new chapter of working to strengthen this and future generations of state education policymakers. I also want to emphasize that the role of citizens in education governance and policy is not only a long American tradition, it is critical to ensuring the broad support and continual improvements our public education system needs to succeed for all students—and NASBE will not waver from its mission of vigorously promoting and assisting our lay leadership.

We live in an era of improvements and innovations in K-12 education, and state boards should and will continue to be a catalyst of these efforts. I look forward to working closely with our members and partners in this common cause.”
