Legislative Conference 2019: Schedule at a Glance

On April 7–9, 2019, state board of education members from across the nation will gather at the legendary Madison Hotel in Washington, D.C., for NASBE’s 2019 Legislative Conference. Focused on national and state education policy, the legislative conference will engage national experts and education leaders on topics that are front and center for state boards. Participants will also hear from influential members of Congress and meet with their state’s congressional delegation and/or staff as part of NASBE’s annual Capitol Hill visit on Tuesday, April 9.

Below is the schedule at a glance for the 2019 Legislative Conference. Speakers and session descriptions will be released soon, but sessions will cover the following topics:

1:00 pm – 4:30 pm – NASBE Government Affairs Committee Meeting

4:45 pm – First shuttle bus leaves Madison Hotel for CCSSO Dinner. Buses will depart at 4:45, 5:00, and 5:15 pm.

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Opening Reception with CCSSO

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Opening Dinner (Keynote speaker Hadi Partovi, tech entrepreneur and investor, and CEO of Code.org.) 

8:00 – 8:30 pm – Member Meet and Greet 

8:45 pm – Last shuttle bus leaves for Madison Hotel.

Monday, April 8

8:45 am – 10:15 am – General Session: Keynote Address and Opening Panel: From a Nation at Risk to a Nation of Hope: Opportunities and Actions

10:15 am – 10:30 am – Transition Break

10:30 am – 12:00 pm – Concurrent Sessions: 

  • Impact of Building Principal Pipelines (Livecast release event)
  • Amplifying Student Voice: Panel of State Board Members, Student Members

12:20 pm – 1:15 pm – Lunch Plenary Session: State Board Levers to Support Great Teachers in Every Classroom

1:30 pm – 2:45 pm – Plenary Session: Announcement of the Civic Engagement Awards
