Legislative Conference 2017: Schedule at a Glance

This year’s Legislative Conference highlights the need for state boards of education to exercise leadership during a time of significant change at both the national and the state level. With a new administration in Washington, new legislation that devolves greater authority to states, and many new governors and state board members, there is a need for strong leadership to ensure equity and excellence for all students.

Goals of the conference:

  • Explore and promote the role of the state board to hold firm to equity and excellence in education in times of change
  • Advocate for thinking outside the restrictions of federal compliance by demonstrating state leadership under ESSA
  • Develop skills to lead with broad support – engaging stakeholders toward common goals of excellence and equity for every student.
