The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) seeks applicants for state stipends under NASBE’s project, Deeper Learning: Education for the 21st Century.

The purpose of the stipend award is to support states in their work to identify, develop and align policies for a comprehensive state education system centered on deeper learning. The project furthers NASBE’s mission to strengthen the policy making role of state boards of education in ensuring all students graduate high school with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to succeed in college, career, and civic life.

To achieve their own bold vision of deeper learning, stipend states will inventory their current policies and analyze gaps against a fully-developed coherent and aligned state education system centered on deeper learning. State partners will collaborate with NASBE in piloting and refining its Standards-Based Policy Audit Process and Toolkit. States will also use this toolkit to create strategic implementation plans to address these gaps. These plans will incorporate a cycle of review, evaluation and continuous improvement to guide and sustain broad state leadership and investment in achieving their bold vision.

Two states will receive funding as merited by application approval. Each stipend is up to $9,000 and lasts for one year.

Proposals are due to NASBE no later than COB on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. States should submit their application to Don Long at don.long@nasbe.org.

An informational webinar will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 3:00 pm (EDT) for those interested in learning about the stipend project. Register for this webinar.

While NASBE members enjoy a competitive advantage, all state boards are encouraged to apply.
