Alexandria, VA – Without a significant expansion of quality English instruction and bilingual education, the country’s social unity, economic competitiveness, and national security are in grave jeopardy warns the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) in a new report being released today. These findings, as well as recommendations for educational leaders to help bolster English literacy, are the result of a year-long study of language and learning. The full report, E Pluribus Unum: English, Language Education, and America’s Future, is being disseminated to state leaders, local educators, and federal officials, including those at the U.S. Departments of Education and Homeland Security.
