NASBE has published a new issue of the State Education Journal on how state leaders can boost the quality of preschool into the early elementary grades—and how states can better coordinate their widely disparate early education systems in order to help young children sustain their learning gains.
Policymakers recognize just how critical early education is to a student’s later school success and have moved to merge pre-K services with their states’ K-12 curriculum. In order to maximize the investments being made in early education, policymakers must bridge the connection between preschool, kindergarten and the early grades and establish coherence and alignment among the various systems.
