NASBE 2008 Legislative Conference Summary CoverState board of education members told members of Congress that reforms need to be made to the No Child Left Behind Act in meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill during NASBE’s recent legislative conference. But members were warned by Congress watchers not to expect any legislative changes this year and that the delay could jeopardize enactment of a new federal K-12 law for several years.

“The next six months will determine whether changes are made to the No Child Left Behind Act this year or whether policymakers, teachers, and students will have to wait an unacceptably longer period of time for the common sense improvements that will make the law work better in our states and schools,” said Karabelle Pizzigati, NASBE President and a member of the Maryland State Board of Education.
