NASBE leadership is scheduled to participate in the International Summit on the Teaching Profession scheduled for March 16-17 in New York City to work on the following objectives:

  • Emphasize the importance of the teaching profession;
  • Identify and share the world’s best practices in recruiting, preparing, supporting, developing, evaluating, compensating, and retaining teachers;
  • Examine teacher engagement in education reform and progressive union relationships; and
  • Initiate an ongoing, international dialogue on the teaching profession.

The Summit will include a convening of a small group of education ministers, leaders of teachers’ unions, and accomplished teachers from around the world for an intensive discussion of global best practices in attracting, training, supporting, evaluating, and retaining world-class teachers. The Summit is being convened by the Department, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Education International as well as partners in the United States.
