The Republicans control the U.S. House of Representatives with a majority (242-193 margin) and the Democrats remain in control of the U.S. Senate (53-47 margin). Rep. Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa remains Chairman and Sen. Michael Enzi of Wyoming remains Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee. The Senate Democratic Caucus has yet to name the Chair of the Subcommittee on Children and Families. Sen. Lamar Alexander will remain Ranking Member of the Subcommittee. It is expected that President Barak Obama will include the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) as a priority in his State of the Union address to Congress scheduled for January 25.
