The National School Boards Association (NSBA) is the nationwide advocacy organization for public school governance. NSBA’s mission is to foster excellence and equity in public elementary and secondary schools through local school board leadership. Founded in 1940, NSBA is a nonprofit federation of state associations of school boards across the United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NSBA represents 95,000 school board members. These board members govern 14,722 local school districts that serve more than 45 million public school students – approximately 90 percent of all elementary and secondary school students in the nation.
